Classroom Management |
I describe my classroom management style as “firm yet loving”. It is important that my students know that I love them. I know they are all brilliant and I have high expectations for all of them because I believe in them.
I recognize that each student is a unique individual and every situation is different, therefore I run my classroom with Love & Logic. It is my practice to help my students understand the cause and effect of their actions and help them come up with practical solutions to their actions. You may hear your child repeat some of my phrases such as, “oh-oh”, “energy drain”, “this is so sad”, and many others. I may even at times recruit parents to collaborate with me in particularly eventful situations. In any case, these methods are provided by the Love & Logic Institute and I have found them to be incredibly useful in promoting my students and my daughters to be Communicators and Thinkers.
Brown International has adopted The 3C’s (Cooperation, Commitment, and Curiosity) to help our community of learners focus on self-management skills in and out of school. The 3C’s embody the I.B. Attitudes and the Learner Profiles. In the first week of school our class will collaborate in creating essential agreements that align with the PYP Learner Profile and the I.B Attitudes. A list of these agreements will be on display in the classroom. If a child has a hard time living our essential agreements in class I will do my very best to redirect them and encourage them to take responsibility for their behavior. If a child has a hard time finding a solution to their problem and continues to have disruptive behavior in the classroom, I will ask them to fill out a reflection sheet in another room and take this sheet home to be signed by a parent or caregiver. If the behavior continues, I will send the child to the office for reflection.
